The Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) is the first national institutionalized behavioural initiative in Africa supporting government and stakeholders to make behaviourally informed decisions and generate evidence for impact driven interventions in critical thematic areas (Governance, Health, Gender & Social Inclusion, Education, Digital & Financial Inclusion). The PIC is positioned to support the delivery of better policies and innovative solutions for high impact interventions across Africa. Job Description
The PIC is seeking a Data Scientist to support data-driven decision-making across its programs and policy initiatives. The role will contribute to data collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization to generate insights that inform project design, implementation, and evaluation. The Data Scientist will work closely with program and research teams to ensure that data is effectively used to enhance learning, performance, and impact. This position is ideal for a results-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and an interest in applying data science to governance and development challenges.
Job Responsibilities
- Support the collection, cleaning, and organization of quantitative and qualitative datasets for analysis.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and insights relevant to project objectives.
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, and analytical summaries to communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Assist in designing and implementing data pipelines and workflows to improve data quality and accessibility.
- Apply statistical and analytical techniques to support research, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for using data to improve project efficiency and outcomes.
- Support the integration of data-driven approaches into program planning and reporting.
- Assist in preparing technical reports, data briefs, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to maintaining data storage systems and ensuring data security and confidentiality.
- Stay informed on emerging tools, technologies, and best practices in data science and analytics.
Qualifications/Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- 1–3 years of experience in data analysis, data science, or a related role experience in development or policy contexts is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in at least one programming language.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Excel.
- Working knowledge of statistical and machine learning concepts and their practical applications.
- Familiarity with data management, cleaning, and transformation techniques.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and applying data-driven insights to real-world challenges.
