The Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) is the first national institutionalized behavioural initiative in Africa supporting government and stakeholders to make behaviourally informed decisions and generate evidence for impact driven interventions in critical thematic areas (Governance, Health, Gender & Social Inclusion, Education, Digital & Financial Inclusion). The PIC is positioned to support the delivery of better policies and innovative solutions for high impact interventions across Africa. The PIC is an affiliate of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), a leading think tank in Africa redefining evidence-based policy advocacy.
Job Description
The PIC is seeking a Research Economist to support its research, policy, and program teams in generating high-quality economic evidence to inform decision-making and policy design. The successful candidate will contribute to data collection, analysis, and interpretation; support economic modelling and policy evaluations; and assist in producing research reports and briefs. The role requires strong analytical and writing skills, a solid grounding in economic theory and quantitative methods, and a keen interest in applying economic research to development and governance challenges.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in various stages of research projects, including project conceptualization, methodology design, data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
- Support situational analyses to identify barriers to women's participation in economics, supporting the development of evidence-based strategies.
- Support the utilization of econometric models and techniques to analyze datasets related to gender disparities in economics.
- Support the integration of big data analytics and AI tools to enhance research processes.
- Contribute to drafting and reviewing research reports, policy briefs, and other publications.
- Assist in the dissemination of research findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Support stakeholder mapping efforts to identify key influencers and potential partners in promoting women's leadership in economics.
- Participate in the development and execution of advocacy campaigns aimed at institutional change.
- Assist in the design and delivery of training programs focused on gender-sensitive approaches to economics.
- Support the mentorship of junior researchers and interns.
- Work collaboratively with various departments to integrate research findings into broader organizational strategies.
- Help organize conferences, workshops, and seminars to foster dialogue on gender and economics
Qualifications/Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of a First-Class or strong Second-Class Upper (2:1)
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in economic research, data analysis, or policy studies.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in statistical software such as STATA, R, Python, or SPSS.
- Ability to conduct literature reviews, synthesize findings, and contribute to technical research outputs.
- Good understanding of economic theories, policy analysis, and development economics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, evidence-based reports and briefs.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling and analysis.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a research or project-based team environment.
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, governance, or development research.
- High ethical standards, professionalism, and commitment to learning.
