Michael is a Professor of Sociology with extensive expertise in population studies, public health, and social policy. In his role, he leads cutting-edge research, teaches and mentors students, and contributes to the development of evidence-based policies that address critical societal challenges. His work focuses on areas such as adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health, health systems, and humanitarian contexts, with a strong emphasis on generating insights that inform policy and improve lives.
Prior to attaining professorship, he built a distinguished academic and research career at the University of Lagos, progressing through multiple teaching and research roles. He also contributed significantly as a Senior Researcher at Population Council and as a consultant to global organizations including UNFPA and USAID-funded initiatives. Michael has led and coordinated several large-scale local and international research projects, serving as Principal Investigator on studies addressing reproductive health challenges, gender-based inequities, and humanitarian issues across Nigeria and beyond.
Michael holds a PhD and MSc from the University of Lagos, a BSc in Sociology from the University of Ilorin, and a Graduate Certificate in International Public Health from the Institute for International Medicine, USA. He is a 2022 Fellow of the Social Science in Humanitarian Action Platform (SSHAP) and has published extensively in reputable international journals. His academic and professional journey reflects a strong commitment to advancing knowledge and shaping policies that drive meaningful social impact.
